DAY 14: Exploring Beech Mountain

Observation of the day

Mother Nature never ceases to impress.

Quote of the day

“I would even sit and read a book there.” – comment made by Emma as we admired a gorgeous home on Beech Mountain with porch swings.

Remi kept Tom company while
he worked today.
Remi seems to have adapted
to the mountain lifestyle.

VM: Today both EM and I slept in enjoying Jeannine’s incredibly comfy beds. When we finally arose, we were spoiled further by her mouth-watering homemade sausage & gravy, scrambled eggs and biscuits. Yumola.

After our brunch indulgence we decided to go walk some of it off with a mountain hike. Beech Mountain has beautiful trails and Jeannine knew just where to take us. Everything is green and lush. We also enjoyed rhododendrons in bloom. And despite a few showers, we really had a fun time.

Along the way we found Fairyland😁.
Presiding over Fairyland.

It is breathtaking.

We came along this fellow eating a spot of lunch.

The rhododendrons are everywhere.

After our trek, Jeannine took us to see the Beech Mountain sights. As a “resort” mountain there are many family-friendly amenities like a recreation center, kids’ camp, tennis courts, dog park, etc. etc. It really is a wonderful spot. We even stopped by the pub at the golf clubhouse to admire the view.

The spectacular view from the golf clubhouse.

We could see the rain coming in.

Geraniums loving the weather.

Enjoyed checking out Fred's General Store with
anything & everything you need. We even saw Fred!

We finally made our way back at 4pm to take showers and ready for dinner. We chose to go to an authentically delicious Mexican restaurant. The place is big but was jam-packed. Again, it’s nice to see the world getting back to some normalcy.

The McDonoughs' welcoming cabin in the woods.

Remi likes his mountain strolls.

We returned to the McDonough’s around 7pm and took Remi out for a stroll around the golf course. The rain subsided so we were treated to a beautiful sunset. At EM’s request, we finished our day playing a board game called Telestrations. A bit like the telephone game but with drawings. Suffice to say that none of us are artists incognito!

Tomorrow we plan to head out around noon for Southern Pines. We are looking forward to seeing Nana Donny for supper at her place.

So grateful for lifelong friends!

Random Pic of the Day
As has been noted before, the deer very much rule on Beech Mountain.
We laughed at this doe who was chillaxing by greenery which was
clearly being protected from becoming her food.
